A note about Dayglow Flower Nectars:
What is Dayglow Extracts?
This is our line of edible flower extracts made from some of the most famous and exotic, blossoms of fragrant species from around the world which we grow here at our St Petersburg, Florida based Mini-Farm 100% organic!
What is the product?
These are artisan flower flavor extracts which capture the fragrance of fresh flowers and render them as a flavor into a form that is similar to a syrup, but with the flavor of fresh exotic flowers! This is why we call them ‘Flower Nectars.’
How are they made?
Fresh flowers are picked at peak fragrance from our organic garden, and subjected to a unique infusion process. This particular extraction format is excellent for preserving the delicate fragrance notes bright sparkly fragrances of a fresh flower without the alterations which can be caused by more thorough extraction solvents such as alcohol.
How do I use them?
Enjoy right from the bottle: 2-3 drops on the tongue for an immediate blissful experience!
To use for desserts/drinks: try drizzled on ice cream, on the foam of a latte or in some sparkling water or in light mocktails or cocktails!
As a tonic, wonderful results can be observed when pairing the therapeutic elements of these flowers with self-work such as yoga or meditation!
Can it be used it like a tincture, or bitters to flavor other things?
These are similar to tinctures, but the end result is an amazing floral flavor but one which is very delicate and does not stand up to too much dilution the way a tincture or bitters would. Therefore it is best to use them on flavors that can serve as a base to feature these floral notes, such as vanilla ice cream or sparkling water. For this same reason, we do not recommend using them to flavor beverages foods that have strong flavors already as they may get ‘lost in the sauce’ unless using a large amount.
Why not just a tincture or bitters of these flowers instead?
Each extraction method showcases a different side to the flower. The nectars are gentle and focus on the fragrance. An alcohol-based extract of the very same flower however would taste quite strong and bitter due to the more thorough extracting and preserving properties of alcohol, which also captures tannins and saponins. An extract such as this be may be better suited for using as a ‘bitters’ to add a flavor to beverages with only few drops, being able to carry a small quantity of the stronger flavor to be noticeable even in bolder mixes like dark drinks or desserts. Refer to our Tinctures & Bitters section for these types of products. Often we offer the same flower variety in both a ‘nectar’ and a tincture format!
How to store them?
We recommend refrigeration for storage to best preserve the delicate flavors for longer and can keep for up to a year stored in this way. These extracts are sensitive to prolonged sunlight and heat so which will degrade the floral flavors. While they are great to bring around, don’t forget them in a hot car.
