Port of Cadaques (Night)
This dark, smoky, and maritime masculine scent was created for The Dalí Museum, for a perfume workshop based on their Impressionist exhibit. It was based on Salvador Dalí ‘s painting, “Port of Cadaques (Night)”.
The painting features dark and drunken reflections in the salty port at night. When Dalí painted it in 1918, there was still a lot of trade between Catalan and Cuba. Catalonian sailors would travel to Cuba and come back as “Indianos”, with rum, sugar, coffee, and other riches. One of the most well known “Indianos” was Don Facundo Bacardi Masso, who started the Bacardi rum distillery in Cuba in 1862. With all the rum and coffee coming into the Catalonian ports, a drink called Cremat was born, consisting of dark rum, coffee, cinnamon, lemon peel, and sugar. When sailors would come into port at night, they would make Cremat and light the drink on fire and sing sea shanties into the evening.
