
Manilkara kauki - 'Kauki' - Air Layer Plant
A sacred fruit in traditional Javanese culture, with much symbolism and ritual use, as well as edible applications! Very rare to find for sale especially as an air-layer clone!
Related to the beloved Sapodilla of Mexico and Central America, this rare fruit is native to Indonesia. The tree has wide rounded glossy leaves and when bearing fruit, which are shiny and red, have an amazing ornamental appearance! Apparently this fruit is used in a traditional Javanese ritual and trees themselves cherished for planting to bringing longevity, luck and good fortune! The trees are often planted near sacred places. The fruits are gathered by indigenous peoples for consumption out of hand, some seafaring tribes traveling distances to collect them. They are said to taste similar to dates with a sweet white pulp.
