Campomanesia xanthocarpa var. littoralis 'Gabiroba' Starter Plant
One plant or a Pair of plants for Cross pollination!
A rare ‘perfume guava’ this dwarf, precocious and self-fertile variety is a winner for those with limited space or who wish to have a beautiful fruiting, medicinal and aromatic plant that will produce at smaller sizes in containers!
A very rare dwarf and early-fruiting variety of this cherished species from Brazil. Normal C. xanthocarpa becomes a large tree in time, and may take the better half of a decade to flower and fruit. This variation ‘littoralis’ is a coastal dwarf variety that has proved much more precocious. Our mother plant proved to be self-fertile and bore many fruit around 3 years of age in a 7 gallon pot. We also sell these as a pair because fruits produced with a second dwarf pollinating plant will likely be significantly larger, sweeter and more numerous.
The fruit are blueberry-sized and brightly orange colored. They have a zesty and aromatic flavor reminiscent of passionfruit, pink guava and mango with a good degree of zesty herbaceous and resinous tastes near the peel. The fruit are much beloved in Brazil where they are harvested from the wild to eat out of hand or to be made into juice, jams, jellies, desserts, wine, liqueurs and more! The fruit rinds are also used to flavor other food items indicating that they are very aromatic and flavorful as well. The fruit of this species are rich in healthful constituents, vitamins and minerals!
This plant has very high ornamental value, with leaves showcasing a frilly look with orange new growth.
The plant offered is a seedling in a 2.5” pot.
